Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. receives remuneration from fund companies participating in the Mutual Fund OneSource service. Schwab’s short-term redemption fee of $49.95 will be charged on redemption of funds purchased through Schwab’s Mutual Fund OneSource service (and certain other funds with no transaction fees) and held for 90 days or less. Schwab reserves the right to exempt certain funds from this fee, including Schwab Funds, which may charge a separate redemption fee, and funds that accommodate short-term trading. For trade orders placed through a broker, a $25 service charge applies. Schwab reserves the right to change the funds we make available without transaction fees and to reinstate fees on any funds. Transparent pricing and low costs.

Schwab shall have the right to determine the amount of such fees in its reasonable discretion, and such fees may differ from or exceed the actual third-party fees properly paid by Schwab in connection with any transaction. ETFs at Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. (“Schwab”) which are U.S. exchange-listed can be traded without a commission on buy and sell transactions made online in a Schwab account. Schwab does not receive payment to promote any particular ETF to its customers. Schwab’s affiliate Charles Schwab Investment Management, Inc. (“CSIM”) serves as investment advisor to the Schwab ETFs, which compensate CSIM out of the applicable operating expense ratios. The amount of the fees is disclosed in the prospectus of each ETF. Select Lists, like the previously mentioned one for ETFs, are compiled by the company’s experts and released quarterly to give you a pre-screened selection of mutual funds and ETFs. Schwab also offers clients access to initial public offerings of stock, a feature that not every broker provides. In addition to the basic trading capabilities on Schwab’s website, the broker offers several robust trading platforms, all of which are free and available to all trading services clients. How do we review brokers?

In fact, in 2020 Schwab completed acquisitions of several companies, including Motif and TD Ameritrade. Existing USAA clients can consult Victory Capital for mutual funds, 529 college savings plans, and ETFs. You don’t need to meet any minimum account requirements to open a Schwab brokerage account, IRA, trust, education savings account, or custodial account. But Schwab Intelligent Portfolios, its standard automated investing account, has a $5,000 minimum.

For example, if a stock costs $100 a share, and you buy a $10 slice, you’d own 10% of a share. Single slices are available for as little as $5, and investors can buy up to 10 slices at a time. However, this feature is only available for stocks of S&P 500 companies. Similar brokers that offer fractional trading don’t have such restrictions on their fractional share offerings. ‡‡Per-trade mutual fund transaction fees are capped at 8.5% of principal regardless of channel.

Compare to Similar Brokers

Some cash alternatives outside of Schwab Intelligent Portfolios Solutions pay a higher yield. Schwab Intelligent Portfolios Solutions invests in Schwab ETFs. A Schwab affiliate, Charles Schwab Investment Management Inc., receives management fees on those ETFs. Schwab Intelligent Portfolios Solutions also invests in third-party ETFs. Schwab receives compensation from some of those ETFs for providing shareholder services, and also from market centers where ETF trade orders are routed for execution. Fees and expenses will lower performance, and investors should consider all program requirements and costs before investing.
